Position Summary:

Riggers possess and develop a broad range of technical skills including: splicing; sail tuning; rigging for crane lifts; metal working, welding and eventually crane operation. They possess and develop a thorough knowledge of working loads for lines, cables and blocks; as well as the mechanical maintenance and refurbishment of common sailing equipment such as winches, furlers masts, headsail furlers and windlasses. This broad set of skills allow the Riggers to take the lead on Yard projects involving sailboat rigging; anchoring; davits; cable steering systems; and removing / reinstalling hardware for mast and deck paint jobs.

The Rig Shop at Safe Harbor Great Island has greater capability then many yards. These capabilities include: weld repairs to masts; upgrades to Liesurefurl Booms; design and installation of sailing upgrades such as staysails and spinnaker sprit; and full mast replacements. The Rig Shop is a great place to develop and hone a wide variety of marine skills under the guidance of senior riggers with decades of experience.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Unstep and step masts

Connect and troubleshoot mast lights and wiring
Install booms, sails, running rigging
Prepare sailboats to safely sail
Splice lines, service winches and furling systems-both manual and electrical/hydraulic.

General:
Contribute as an independent Systems team member in the manufacture of various aspects of both custom and semi-custom van conversions
Work in close communication with the CFF group to ensure integration of all CFF and Systems functionality within each conversion

Electrical:
Install electrical wiring and components as specified by manufacturer and or build documents.
Install, diagnose and repair 110V AC wiring including inverters, shore power plugs
Install, diagnose and repair 12V DC components and wiring including off road lights, interior lights, water pumps, relays, fans, batteries, charge controllers and all other DC components
Construct and install 12V DC and 110V AC wiring harnesses
Install solar arrays and charging systems
Plumbing:
Install, diagnose and repair plumbing systems including water pumps, hot water heaters, faucets, sink drains, plumbing and fittings, water tanks, drains and other plumbing components.
Install, diagnose and repair propane systems including tanks, lines, regulators, heaters, and appliances.

Our customers are usually having the best day ever-- exploring and vintage shopping in Maine, not looking for anything in particular. It is a very cheerful, pleasant place to work.

The cottage has a nice patio and you are welcome to sit outside and enjoy the Maine summer between customers. Around September we install a fire pit on the patio.

SEACRAFT is traditionally open Thurs-Sun, 10-5ish, June to December. Roles and Responsibilities:
CFF shop work-
Contribute as an independent CFF team member in the manufacture of various aspects of both custom and semi-custom van conversions
Framing, insulation, cabinetry, upholstery, trim & finish
Work in close communication with the Systems group to ensure integration of all CFF and Systems functionality within each conversion
Under direction of CFF Lead, support all shop equipment and tooling maintenance

THE POSITION
Van Dam Custom Boats, one of the world’s premier wooden boat builders, is seeking a talented, energetic, and motivated addition to the team. As an experienced member of our team, you will be expected to be fluent in all aspects of cold molded construction, from building frames and stringers, to laminating hull skins and exterior planking, to the different types of joinery commonly used in boat building to fairing surfaces without the need to add filler. A thorough understanding of the structural challenges and concerns when working with wood and an attention to detail are expected. Furthermore, the ability to shift from hull construction into interior construction and detailed woodworking for both painted and varnished surfaces will be expected. Experience with electrical systems installation, mechanical systems installation and engine and drivetrain installation is desired. Basic experience with composites is also desired. In this role you will most typically be a part of an entire build project working on everything from the hull construction through interior construction, helping in the metal and paint departments, and doing the final assembly. Day to day, you will report directly to one of the project managers, but you will also have oversight and consistent direct involvement with the president of the company.
