Pyka is looking for an Aircraft Integration Technician with the skills and drive to match or exceed that of our experienced, enthusiastic, and fast-moving team. In this role, you will be responsible for all aspects of “bringing the plane to life,” including running wires, installing connectors, mechanical assembly, composite bonding, maintenance, and repair. As one of our first integration technician hires, you will be a key contributor to the vehicle system. This is an active role that involves lifting, frequent standing, and some exposure to noise and VOCs. You will occasionally be required to sand cured epoxy composites, apply conformal coatings, and use solvent-based mold release agents. PPE is provided for these activities.

Responsibilities

Use CAD drawings to accurately cut holes in composite airframe assemblies

Prep and bond 3D printed parts to the composite airframe

Install PCBs and electronics subsystems using schematics, PCB layout, and assembly work instructions

Install wire harnesses, HV wiring, and cables based on wiring diagrams and CAD drawings

Solder and crimp wires, install/replace connectors

Meticulously maintain tools and fixturing

Develop process improvements to increase manufacturing efficiency

Monitor product quality during manufacturing and assembly

Foster the principles of safety and cleanliness in the shop

Preferred Qualifications

2–4 years hands-on work with electrical and mechanical systems

Familiarity with basic hand tools (screwdrivers, pliers, etc) and hand-held power tools (dremels, angle grinders, Festool vacs and accessories, drills)

Excellent craftsmanship and experience with sanding, trimming, and painting

Ability to follow written and verbal instructions to assemble electronic subsystems containing a variety of electrical and mechanical components

Understanding of wiring diagrams and ability to build wiring harnesses using proper tools (wire stripper, crimper, etc)

Basic high voltage safety knowledge and comfortable working on 120 VDC, 20 ~ 30 kW systems

Experience inspecting and ensuring quality of electrical subsystems

Excellent written and verbal communication skills; the ideal candidate is not afraid to ask for clarification or give feedback

Strong mechanical skills and intuition, and familiarity with different hardware types and applications

Experience working with composites is a plus

Extreme attention to detail and continual pursuit of perfection

Position Summary:

Factory 3, a makerspace at 105 Saint James Street in Portland, is seeking a part-time woodworking instructor for an Intro to Woodshop class taught in our facility. The class is currently scheduled on Saturdays from 10 am to 2 pm, twice per month, with two instructors taking turns teaching the class. Additional sessions can be added, including at different times, upon agreement between Factory 3 and the instructors, if classes are filling up well ahead of time.
There are 3-5 students for each class. Classes are almost always filled. Most students are beginners trying out woodworking for the first time. The instructor should have enough experience to guide a beginner through the steps to turn a rough hardwood board into a cutting board in four hours, learning the basic use of all the power tools in our shop.
Factory 3 provides all tools, materials, and consumables, and promotes and schedules all classes.
Class fees paid by students are split 50-50 between Factory 3 and the instructor, after deducting a fee for materials. Most students pay the full class fee, but a small number pay a discounted fee, where the discount is shared 50-50 between the instructor and Factory 3. At current prices, the instructor will earn $275 for a full class with all students paying the maximum fee.
Factory 3 is also open to instructors' ideas for more advanced woodworking classes.

Rocking the Boat began as a boatbuilding afterschool project for the high-need community of the South Bronx and incorporated as a 501(c)3 non-profit in 2001. Today, the organization, with an annual budget of $3,000,000, is a hub of youth development programming that serves nearly 4,000 community members annually. The mediums of boatbuilding, environmental science, and sailing are paired with social-emotional, academic, and career counselling by a team of licensed social workers to have profound and lasting impact on participants. Boats number 54 and 55 are currently under construction on the Rocking the Boat shop floor.

Position Summary
The Director of Boatbuilding Operations leads the afterschool and summer Boatbuilding Job Skills Program and coordinates all wooden boatbuilding-related operations across the organization. This includes managing all wooden boatbuilding materials, tools, and equipment, and ensuring the proper maintenance of Rocking the Boat’s fleet of wooden rowing and sailing boats. The position supervises up to 12 apprentices (16- to 18-yearold graduates of the Student Boatbuilding Program) on a range of boat repair, restoration, and new construction projects forming a comprehensive on-the-job training experience. The Director of Boatbuilding Operations must be technically skilled in woodworking—ideally wooden boatbuilding — and be experienced in shop management and interested in applying those skills to a youth development environment. The ideal candidate has experience managing a small work crew and can balance the accomplishment of tangible boatbuilding and restoration goals with effective youth development practices. The position reports to the Senior Director of Programs and is a full-time, exempt role.

Responsibilities
Program Development and Execution: Ensuring the planning and implementation of a comprehensive youth development and job readiness program in traditional wooden boatbuilding and maintenance
• Offers engaging and relevant programs to youth participants centered on building wooden rowing and
sailing boats and maintaining Rocking the Boat’s wooden rowing and sailing fleet

Veneer Services Unlimited is a specialty shop producing products for other woodworkers that range from guitars to large-scale veneered architectural installations and includes everything in between.

We are looking for a precise and meticulous woodworker to join our close-knit team. Some experience with veneer work is a plus but not required. However, if you don’t like veneer or cannot work to close tolerances, this is definitely not the job for you.

You MUST:
• Have good communication skills: be able to read, write and collaborate with other workers
• Be able to do simple arithmetic (add, subtract) without use of a calculator and do more complex arithmetic using a calculator
• Understand basic geometry (circles, angles, etc…)
• Have patience and problem-solving skills
• Be quality- and precision-oriented
• Be able to lift frequently
• Be able to lift at least 75 pounds
• Be able to read and understand architectural drawings
• Be able to use a tape measure to measure and cut parts to within 1/32”
• Be experienced in the use of classical woodworking machines: tablesaw, jointer, planer
• Be experienced in hand woodworking skills: scraping, sanding, use of block plane, etc…
• Not be drug-, alcohol-, or tobacco-dependent
• Be able to limit phone use to breaks and emergencies
• Provide work references

Offshore Spars, a world leader in high-end carbon fiber sailboat yacht spars, is seeking candidates with composites layup and fabrication experience at our Chesterfield, MI facility. Candidate should have a positive attitude, good attendance, and be capable learning quickly.
Candidates may (depending on skills and experience) start in the carbon fiber layup department, hand laying pre-preg carbon fiber over molds. Essential job functions of this position include the following.

- Layup of pre-preg carbon fiber over male mandrels or inside female molds
- Operation of automatic debulking and tool extraction machinery
- Assistance with organizing patterns and the ability to carry out basic math
- Will involve stooping, kneeling, or crouching and holding approximately 30 lbs

After mastering layup skills, candidates will be trained as a composite fabricator. Essential job functions of this position include the following.
- Cutting, sanding and bonding of carbon fiber parts to blueprints
- Working directly with engineering to understand designs and solve issues
- Self motivated build schedule and management
- Final installation of parts after paint and double check against designs

Experience and Qualifications
- Experience with composite materials not required but highly preferred
- Minimum two years in a manufacturing environment required
- Ability to perform basic High School or GED level math
- Reliable transportation and ability to come to work on a daily basis
- Employees with a background in fabrication, home building, autobody work, and craftsmanship transfer well to this position.
