POSITION SUMMARY:
All phases of composite boat construction
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/ACTIVITIES:
 Female/male mold assembly to include filling and fairing joint seams and applying mold release wax
 Kit fabrication involving cutting fabric to desired sizes, direction
 Material lay-up and installation of peel ply, fabrics, flow media, vacuum and feeder lines
 Mixing of resin materials by weight/volume
 Infusion monitoring for temperature, vacuum infusion and time of infusion
 Modular installation of infused pieces for bulkheads, floor systems, decks and pilothouse
 Finishing, trimming and fitting of composite parts
 Some wet lay-up and wet preg is required for secondary bonding and tabbing
 Grinding and sanding for secondary bonding
 Works ‘hands on’ on multiple projects

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
 Prior experience working with composites
 Basic carpentry skills for staging and platform construction, templates and molds and cutting and fitting pieces
 Must be able to wear a respirator
 Must be able to meet the requirements of the work schedule
 Must be able to use measuring tools

Project Overview:

The duration of each job is typically three to five weeks. TDS fabricates the decks and components to fit each ship’s exact specifications. The unassembled materials are then shipped to us on-site.
Upon delivery, we:
● Unpack all materials
● Configure/put them in their proper orientation
● Bond them to the vessel
● Trim, sand, and caulk throughout the boat

Core Duties, Responsibilities, Expectations

● Vacuum laminating (using a sheet of plastic to use atmospheric pressure as a clamp

Customer Service Technical Representative is expected to provide information about organization’s products and services, handles customer complaints, process orders. Position Title: Composite Technician

Compensation/Rate: Compensation commensurate with experience

Location: Charlestown, MA

Position Summary:

The composite technician contributes to the construction and repair of our high-performing express cruising power yachts, built to order, using aerospace composite construction processes and highest quality materials and finishes. The composite technician’s objective is to fabricate large composite parts using epoxy impregnated reinforcements and/or small fiber-reinforced parts using vacuum infusion and vacuum-assisted resin transfer molding for our yachts. The team member should be motivated by the opportunity to learn, innovate and advance while building a best-in-class products with like-minded craftspeople.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
• Fabricates large composite parts including hulls, decks, liners using epoxy impregnated reinforcements, and/or fabricates small fiber-reinforced parts including deck hatches, seats, swim platforms, companionways using vacuum infusion and vacuum-assisted resin transfer molding
• Requests equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of items required to complete the necessary installation and/or repair
• Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies
• Contributes to company-wide communication and best practices. Communicates challenges, innovations, delays, and/or needs that may impact project schedule or project quality to the team leader in a timely fashion
• Balances multiple priorities simultaneously and meets deadlines, often in stressful and high-pressure situations
• Performs any other job-related duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
• Experienced with basic hand tools and some power tools including hacksaws, circular saws, table saws and bandsaws
• Ability to read blue-prints will be helpful
• Previous boatbuilding/composites experience not required, but a plus

• The noise level in the work environment is typically loud
• Team members are expected to work in indoor and outdoor environments that are subject to varying levels of cold, heat, humidity, precipitation, wind, noise, dust, and smells
• Work may be performed in and or around electrically or mechanically energized equipment
• Required to work in elevated places on ladders, lifts, catwalks, and staging inside and outside of the building
• Proper precautions and procedures must be taken including the use of appropriate Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) due to occupational risks of exposure to non-toxic and toxic chemicals used in construction of boats
• Members must be able to work between the hours of 5:30am-2:30pm with a half an hour break. Occasional overtime required.

RELATIONSHIPS (DECISION MAKING AUTHORITY)
The composite technician reports to the laminating team manager. The composite technician works closely with other laminating team members as well as other production team members to ensure quality work and on-time production. The composite technician should also communicate as appropriate with Safety Compliance Officer and HR Coordinator to ensure personal safety training/documentation and employment documentation and is current and complete.

Position Summary:

We are looking for a motivated individual to join our team of highly skilled finishers. Ideally you will have a minimum of one year in the marine industry. We are certainly willing to train the right individual. All finish work is done traditionally with brush.
