Position Title: Senior Carpenter

Compensation/Rate: Compensation commensurate with experience

Location: Charlestown, MA

Position Summary:

Reports to: Carpentry Team Leader

JOB OBJECTIVE

The senior carpenter contributes to the construction and repair of our innovative, high-performing express cruiser powerboats, built to order, using aerospace composite construction processes and highest quality materials and finishes. The senior carpenter’s objective is to fabricate, assemble and install interior yacht cabinetry, furniture, modules and trim on our yachts, and to train others to do the same. The senior carpenter should be motivated by the opportunity to learn, innovate and advance while building a best-in-class products with like-minded craftspeople.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Train carpentry team members on carpentry skills.
Delivers and maintains a maximum level of department service and satisfaction
· Contributes to company-wide communication and best practices. Communicates challenges, innovations, delays, and/or needs that may impact project schedule or project quality to the team leader in a timely fashion

Keeps informed of new developments within the department
Balances multiple priorities simultaneously and meets deadlines, often in stressful and high-pressure situations
· Reads blueprints or technical diagrams

· Assembles pre-cut cabinetry panels, pre-finished joinery and millwork

· Installs cabinetry including scribing and fitting to curved and complex surfaces

· Finishes trim work

· Installs and creates protection for high-finish teak and cherry cabinetry

· Responsible for large and complex installations, such as interior liner installs and deck to hull bonding

· Communicates effectively with other team members and team leader

· Prepares written materials (e.g. repair status, activity logs, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities and/or conveying information

· Requests equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of items required to complete the necessary installation and/or repair

· Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies

· Performs any other job-related duties as assigned

Education and/or Experience

High school or equivalent degree required
5+ years in finish carpentry required
Experience using hand tools and power tools, e.g.: table saws, jigsaws, routers, band saws, plate joiners, sanders
Ability to read drawings and build from plans
Ability to accurately measure, lay out, fit and assemble complex shaped interiors
Hoisting experience preferred
Knowledge of adhesives, sealants, and finishing, including epoxies, urethane sealants, silicones, wood glue, and varnish
Emphasis on working safely
Language Skills

· Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents in English, such as policy and procedure manuals, maintenance instructions, and other related documents

· Ability to respond to common instruction and inquiries from other employees

· Ability to compute basic mathematical calculations

Equipment

· Employee will provide required tools attached to this job description; all other necessary tools and equipment will be furnished by the company

· Required to work in elevated places on ladders, lifts, catwalks, and staging inside and outside of the building

· Proper precautions and procedures must be taken including the use of appropriate Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) due to occupational risks of exposure to non-toxic and toxic chemicals used in construction of boats

Travel Requirements: As needed

RELATIONSHIPS (Decision Making Authority)

The senior carpenter reports to the carpentry team leader. The senior carpenter works closely with other carpentry team members as well as other production team members to ensure quality work and on-time production. The senior carpenter should also communicate as appropriate with Safety Compliance Officer and HR Coordinator to ensure personal safety training/documentation and employment documentation and is current and complete.
