Position Summary: Arey’s Pond Boat Yard is a renowned builder of Catboats and other custom vessels in both wood and fiberglass. Along with boat building we offer a full-service yard and waterfront. We are located in Orleans, on lower Cape Cod, MA.

Team work and positive attitude are an essential part of the Arey’s Pond core. We are seeking a boat builder to help with the construction of our fleet of custom sailboats, as well as boatbuilding repairs and restorations. Successful candidates must have exceptional woodworking skills and knowledge of both fiberglass and wood fabrication. The applicant should be comfortable with wood milling, joinery, fiberglass layup, filling, fairing, as well as paint and varnish application. Systems experience a plus.

Position Summary: Riggers possess and develop a broad range of technical skills including: splicing; sail tuning; rigging for crane lifts; metal working, welding and eventually crane operation. The Rig Shop at Safe Harbor Great Island has greater capability then many yards. The Rig Shop is a great place to develop and hone a wide variety of marine skills under the guidance of senior riggers with decades of experience.

Position Summary: Systems Technicians troubleshoot, repair and install systems on boats ranging from 30-60’. These systems include: DC Electrical Charging & Distribution, AC Electrical, Engines, Generators, Water Makers, Navigation Electronics, Refrigeration, Air Conditioning, Heating, Communications and more.

Safe Harbor Great Island Systems Technicians will be trained through a combination of mentoring, ABYC courses and OEM Product Training to develop their knowledge of: maintenance procedures; installation application requirements and troubleshooting using both computer interfaces and diagnostic equipment such as multi-meters, refrigeration gauge sets, and product specific tooling.

Systems Technicians execute annual decommissioning and recommissioning procedures on the vessels stored at Safe Harbor Great Island. These procedures are IPad based and guide the technician through the process while capturing critical data for the customer.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Execute boat commissioning and decommissioning procedures.
Utilize diagnostic equipment and Computer Interfaces to troubleshoot boat systems and components.
Repair, replace, and install new vessel systems and components.

As a Marine Technician, you keep our customers' boats running during the summer and perform routine maintenance during the off-season. A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A FIBERGLASS TECHNICIAN

As a Fiberglass Technician, you complete structural and cosmetic repairs to our customers' boats. After assessing damaged vessels, you assist with writing repair estimates. With great precision, you handle delicate materials and sensitive repairs. You mend and restore fiberglass and gel-coat damage as well as color match. To perform these repairs to boats and other technical equipment, you work with fiberglass, resins, epoxies, and other chemicals. Throughout the process, you operate hand and power tools including buffers, grinders, wet sanders, spray equipment, and rollers. As you work, you are always sure to keep safety in mind.

Although much of your time is spent working with your hands, you also have the opportunity to interact with our customers. You present completed repairs and prepare new boats for customer delivery. Maine Maritime Museum in Bath is seeking an experienced boatbuilding instructor to lead its longest-running educational program, Discovery Boatbuilding. Spanning over two decades, this ground-breaking program provides traditional skills education to students from four schools each week throughout the school year. Discovery Boatbuilding puts students in a working environment that emphasizes and develops each student’s personal growth, teamwork, leadership, responsibility, and problem solving.
This part-time, year-round position works with the Director of Watercraft to develop and teach the museum’s Discovery Boatbuilding Program, a nine-month comprehensive traditional boatbuilding class for area middle school students. The educator will use and expand upon the curriculum developed over the previous 26 years to teach basic woodworking and boatbuilding four days a week to between 10-15 students per day. The boatbuilding educator will manage and direct museum volunteers who assist with the classes, and will oversee volunteer material preparation for the program. The educator will also lead short adult classes spread throughout the year in boatbuilding techniques and other woodworking concepts, and participate in the woodworking components of museum summer camps.
Duties and Responsibilities

• Work with students in grades 5-8 to teach woodworking, boatbuilding, teamwork, and resiliency

Position Summary: Systems Tech


Systems Technicians troubleshoot, repair and install systems on boats ranging from 30-60’. These systems include: DC Electrical Charging & Distribution, AC Electrical, Engines, Generators, Water Makers, Navigation Electronics, Refrigeration, Air Conditioning, Heating, Communications and more.

Safe Harbor Great Island Systems Technicians will be trained through a combination of mentoring, ABYC courses and OEM Product Training to develop their knowledge of: maintenance procedures; installation application requirements and troubleshooting using both computer interfaces and diagnostic equipment such as multi-meters, refrigeration gauge sets, and product specific tooling.

Systems Technicians execute annual decommissioning and recommissioning procedures on the vessels stored at Safe Harbor Great Island. These procedures are IPad base and guide the technician through the process while capturing critical data for the customer.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Execute boat commissioning and decommissioning procedures.
Utilize diagnostic equipment and Computer Interfaces to troubleshoot boat systems and components.
Repair, replace, and install new vessel systems and components.
Evaluate repair and installation jobs and prepare estimated for hours and materials.
Must possess own tools.
Availability to work overtime in order to meet deadlines.



Technical and Physical Requirements
