We’re looking for applicants who have a deep background in sailing, rowing, and paddling. As a CLC Designer, you will be at the heart of what makes CLC the world's most successful small boat company: Original, artful designs, world-class drawings, and documentation, seamless implementation, excellent tech support.

Our shop emphasizes creativity, versatility, teamwork, and a sense of ownership. The work is challenging, fast-paced, sometimes chaotic, but extremely rewarding. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include: Directly report to the VP of Design and assist with the following:

  • Naval Architecture/Drafting/CAD-CAM work

  • Engineering and technical support. Analyses for vessel hull form, stability, weights, structures, arrangements, powering, and resistance for a wide range of vessels

  • Develop naval architecture and structural design plans, procurement specifications, hydrostatics, lines and offsets, calculations of hull strength, finite element analysis of structure, stability analysis, testing and trial data, functional arrangement plans, bills of material, specifications, and reports

Project Management:

• New product concept and preliminary design studies, renderings, detail, and production design drawings

• Product prototyping, production integration, and updates of current designs

• Construction manuals, updates, and revisions

• Drawings, bills of materials, checklists, and file/data audits

• Custom design commissions, estimates, and quotes

• Work cross-functionally with production, customer service, and sales

• Some travel, occasional non-standard work hours

• Public relations, shows, networking & outreach

Education, background and required traits:

• US citizenship

• BS, accredited degree or certificate, formal yacht design training, or equivalent practical experience in Naval Architecture or Marine Engineering

- Manufacture training or certifications with Yanmar, Cummins, Caterpillar or John Deere Marine diesel engines
- Manufacture training or certifications with Mercruiser & Volvo Penta gas engines & outdrives.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical and electrical issues.
- Perform other duties, assignments and responsibilities as required.
- Strong commitment to customer service to ensure a pleasant and productive client-contractor relationship.
- Assist customers by answering specific technical questions.
- Attend technical training to improve proficiency, quality of work and to achieve higher levels of certification.
- Water test equipment with clients.
- Experience with electronically controlled engines
- Minimum five years marine / gas-diesel engine experience required.

Our main shop is 3 miles inland where we store and work on over 30 boats every winter, from 15 to 45 feet.

Job Summary: The candidate must have experience with gelcoat and fiberglass repair techniques. As well as an understanding of multiple finishes including but not limited to, urethan paints, varnish, and Awlgrip. Woodwork and an understanding of wooden boat construction is a plus.

The position is available immediately and is full time year round. After a six month qualifying period we offer paid vacation, a quarterly profit sharing bonus, a simple IRA plan with company match, and paid holidays.

Responsibilities Include: New boat commissioning including but not limited to: new systems, custom request installs, sea trialing, electronics
Mechanical diagnostics, troubleshooting, general maintenance and repair on new and pre-owned vessels
Perform spring commissioning and fall decommissioning on power boats ranging from 20’-70’ of all makes, models and sizes
Build a relationship with our clients, along with service portfolios. Make recommendations to existing service customers for improvements creating service work.
Identify, report, and correct warranty items.

Job Requirements: Mechanical background. Electrical background. General boat systems knowledge. (ABYC certification(s) is highly valued)
Demonstrate understanding of marine systems, vessel operation, vessel construction, and troubleshooting principles
Excellent communication skills
Ability to perform well and produce an excellent product with defined outlines, under strict scheduling, with minimal supervision
Desire to learn new technologies and skills
Willing and able to use specific software for tracking jobs and work orders
Flexible, goal oriented, team focused
