Employer: Sierra Boat Company

Email Address: jared@sierraboat.com

Website: http://sierraboat.com

Position Title: Refinish Carpenter

Compensation/Rate: $30/Hour (Starting)

Location: Carnelian Bay, CA

Position Summary:

Our restoration philosophy is biased more toward preservation than restoration. It is our belief that once a boat has lost much of its original wood, it has also lost its soul. For this reason, we tend to preserve as much of the original boat and structure as possible. The exception is the bottom. Not only must a boat float, but it must also be safe. We utilize the latest technologies when reconstructing a bottom and take great care with is most important aspect of the boat. Most important, our bottoms are built to last with some of our earlier work being over 40 years old and still going strong.

Of course, the quality restoration of wooden boats includes the fine craftsmanship and finishes, but it is much more than that. In order to restore a boat properly; you must research the boat as to correctness of wood, finish, upholstery and mechanical details. Because our shop is able to provide all of the aspects of restoration under one roof, we can control the quality of the project from start to finish. Familiarity with a variety of boats also helps. We have nearly 300 wood boats stored here. Chris Craft, Gar Wood, Hackers, Century and the largest assemblage of Rivas in North America. These boats are a great guide in helping us to correct antique and classic boat restoration.

Our Core Fundamentals:
Employee Centered: we are a family and a team. The job and customer are important, but our employees come first – always. We invest in our employee’s well-being and we are committed to their success.

Unwavering Integrity: to lead our industry, we operate with the highest level of integrity - to the boat, to the customer, to the community, and to ourselves. ‘Without integrity, no real success is possible.’

Excellent Habits: we model our organization after highly successful companies that build effective, repeatable systems and processes which drive efficiency and profitability. We create and build daily habits in our personal and work lives by developing processes, which when done in repetition achieve consistent results. ‘Excellence therefore is not an act but a habit.’

Communication: we speak clearly with our team and our customers. We have direct conversations with our peers when managing expectations, addressing issues, problem solving, decision making, and especially when encouragement and congratulation is due.

Perspective: while production and results are important, we don’t forget that it’s not always about the ‘work’. We value meaningful relationships and encourage personal growth. There are more important things in life that we never take for granted – family, friends, and personal health to name a few.

Never Stop Learning: continuing education leads to constant improvement. A habit, process, system, skill, perception or perspective can always be revised and advanced. While we honor heritage and tradition, we are dedicated to continuous development and progression, both in the workplace and in our personal lives.
