We are seeking a part-time Woodworking Teacher (11-12.5 hours/week) to join our vibrant team for the summer of 2022. Our program runs eight weeks, Monday to Friday, starting June 27th and ends on August 19th. It is expected that teachers set up their room prior to the start of the program and are available for orientation the weekend of June 25th and 26th. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching children of a variety of ages and experience as a boat builder or wood craftsperson. Current teaching certification is a plus.

The class schedule is Tuesday and Thursday from 9 AM to 1:30 PM (Boat Building from 9 AM – 11 AM and Model Boat Making from 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM), and Wednesdays from 9-10:30am and 10:30-12pm (weeks 1-8) with a third section from 12:30-2pm on weeks 3-6 (July 11-August5). Boat Building is designed for kids, ages 9+, to build a skiff over the course of the summer – with the understanding that it may not be fully completed by the end of the season. Model Boat Building is designed as a class where kids will build their own model boat within the weekly class. The Wednesday classes are for ages 7-10 and focus on small woodworking tasks (birdhouses, back scratchers, etc) that can be completed in a single 1.5 hour session. Class sizes are small and we strive to incorporate our beautiful surroundings into the content of classes as often as possible.

KBIA is a relaxed work environment where decisions are made with the needs of children as the driving factor. Partial tuition remission is available for children of teachers.

Today, the organization, with an annual budget of $3,000,000, is a hub of youth development programming that serves nearly 4,000 community members annually. Boats number 54 and 55 are currently under construction on the Rocking the Boat shop floor.

Position Summary
The Director of Boatbuilding Operations coordinates all wooden boatbuilding-related operations across the organization. This includes leading the after school and summer Boatbuilding Job Skills Program, managing all wooden boatbuilding materials, tools, and equipment, and ensuring the proper maintenance of Rocking the Boat’s fleet of wooden rowing and sailing boats. The position supervises up to 12 Apprentices (16- to 18-yearold alumni of the Student Boatbuilding Program) on a range of boat repair, restoration, and new construction projects forming a comprehensive on-the-job training experience. The Director of Boatbuilding Operations must be technically skilled in wooden boatbuilding and experienced in shop management and interested in applying those skills to a youth development environment. The ideal candidate has experience managing a small work crew and can balance the accomplishment of tangible boatbuilding and restoration goals with
effective youth development practices. The position reports to the Senior Director of Programs and is a fulltime, year-round role.

Responsibilities
Program Development and Execution: Ensuring the planning and implementation of a comprehensive youth development and job readiness program in traditional wooden boatbuilding and maintenance
• Offers engaging and relevant programs to youth participants centered on building wooden rowing and
sailing boats and maintaining Rocking the Boat’s wooden rowing and sailing fleet
• Supports all boatbuilding-related Public Programs including components of a middle school after-school
and summer programs and other small group programs throughout the year
• Implements and improves Rocking the Boat’s Boatbuilding curriculum and works with participants to demonstrate individual achievement through mastering a host of technical skills
• Incorporates principals of positive youth development in program planning and delivery

Position Summary:
A Marine Finisher is responsible for all surface preparations and coating of the vessel, may include fairing, sanding, painting, spraying and other finishing procedure. Finishing may involve epoxy, linear polyurethanes and other marine finish products. A Finisher may also assist with preparing estimates, including interacting with Service Managers and/or Customers.

Five years’ experience in the marine finishing industry is preferred but may be substituted for experience in auto body shop finishing. The applicant must be familiar with brush and spray applications, have high quality standards and pay attention to detail. The applicant must have a keen understanding of the safety procedures, have good communication skills and be a team player.

A Marine Finisher must also possess basic mathematic skills, must be able to read and understand paint mixing formulas, have flexibility to work in standing, squatting or kneeling position, work in small confined spaces, as well as reaching overhead with some twisting and bending, while performing the tasks described above. Finisher must not have a fear of heights and must be able to lift a minimum of 25lbs.
