Position Title: Designer/Draftsman

Compensation/Rate: $40,000-$60,000 (Commensurate with education and experience)

Company: Chesapeake Light Craft is searching for a bright, energetic, small-boat enthusiast to join our Design team. We're looking for applicants who have a deep background in sailing, rowing, and paddling.

Position: As a CLC Designer, you will be at the heart of what makes CLC the world's most successful small boat company:

Original, artful designs, world-class drawings and documentation, seamless implementation, excellent tech support. Our shop emphasizes creativity, versatility, teamwork, and a sense of ownership. The work is challenging, fast-paced, sometimes chaotic, but extremely rewarding. The right candidate will have no trouble thriving in this environment. You'll have read all the books, clawed off a few lee shores, slept under a boom tent, and paid your dues on the racecourse. You'll be facile with epoxy-composite construction. You'll be conversant in the work of everybody from George Holmes to Julian Bethwaite. You'll be required to obtain a deep understanding of our design catalog and bring new and exciting ideas to market. You'll have the ability and willingness to articulate your knowledge to amateur boatbuilders: builders of all experience levels will rely on you.

Position Duties: Directly report to the VP of Design and assist with the following:

• Naval Architecture/Drafting/CAD-CAM work o Engineering and technical support. Analyses for vessel hull form, stability, weights, structures, arrangements, powering, and resistance for a wide range of vessels o Develop naval architecture and structural design plans, procurement specifications, hydrostatics, lines and offsets, calculations of hull strength, finite element analysis of structure, stability analysis, testing and trial data, functional arrangement plans, bills of material, specifications, and reports

• Project Management o New product concept and preliminary design studies, renderings, detail, and production design drawings o Product prototyping, production integration, and updates of current designs o Construction manuals, updates, and revisions o Drawings, bills of materials, checklists, and file/data audits

• Custom design commissions, estimates, and quotes

• Work cross-functionally with production, customer service, and sales

• Some travel, occasional non-standard work hours

• Public relations, shows, networking & outreach

• Able to lift up to 50 pounds. We move a lot of boats

Education, Background and required traits:

• US citizenship

• BS, accredited degree or certificate, formal yacht design training, or equivalent practical experience in Naval Architecture or Marine Engineering

• 2+ years of professional design experience

• Proficiency in naval architecture and 3D modeling software such as Rhino, Design CAD, and Solidworks

• Proficient with creativity and productivity software such as Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator, as well as Microsoft Office

• Personal boating experience and a passion for spending time on the water in small boats

• An ability to thrive in a fast-paced, fast-growing small business environment

• Equally successful working independently or on a team

• Excellent communication skills – oral and written, formal and informal

• Superb time management and organizational skills; ability to prioritize and multi-task unsupervised
