  • The physical requirements:

  • Standing for ninety percent (90%), in a shop environment.

  • Walking and climbing flights of stairs on the premises. The floors can be wet and slippery.

  • Lifting of small outboard engines and components (50+ pounds) is necessary.

  • Twisting, bending, stooping with constant use of the hands and hand tools.

  • Climbing in and out of boats.

  • Pushing and pulling of watercraft in and out of the bay may be necessary.

  • Good computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft applications.

  • Experience in forklift operation and backing up a trailer is beneficial.

Task & Duties:

  • Before working on any product, vehicle identification numbers have been inspected to verify the proper unit.

  • Diagnose and quote each job within the time allotted. If additional time is required to determine cost of repairs, the Service Advisor is notified before proceeding.

  • Proper quotation guidelines are followed, with all parts, supplies, and labor information provided on the pick ticket.

  • Proper notation is made on the customer contact record every time the job is worked on, detailing problem, cause, and correction made.

  • Repair and installation work is performed within the quoted time unless unforeseen problems are encountered. At that time the Service Advisor is notified in order to re-quote the repair.

  • All replaced components are either 1) properly bagged and stored with customer’s unit or, 2) properly tagged with necessary information filled out and turned in for warranty.

  • After working on any boat the following are completed or checked: Drain plug removed and tied to steering wheel or winch handle. Ignition key turned to “off” position. Customer pay components in boat. All finger prints wiped off and carpet clean. Cover installed with cover poles in upright position.

  • Repairs are completed in prudent and ethical manner.

  • Care for company tools/equipment is that of the Technician’s own tools.

  • Maintain cleanliness of the designated areas of responsibility.

  • At the end of each day, the following items have been addressed: All paperwork is turned in to Service Advisor. Workbench is cleaned and all personal and shop tools and equipment are wiped off and put away. Service bay is swept and all full trash containers emptied. Air, water, exhaust hoses and electrical cords are wound up in designated area. Engines or assemblies torn down and pending parts or authorization are stored away in appropriate bin and properly marked with customer name and repair order number.

  • Maintain working areas in a neat, orderly and hazard free condition.

  • Required to participate in the regularly scheduled service team meetings.

  • The Marine Technician position requires a professional who can produce quality workmanship.

  • Full understanding of quality work and meeting the needs of the customer is the company's first priority.

  • Performs any other duty assigned by the Service Advisors and Managers.

Measures of Performance:

  • Documentation is properly executed for each repair order.

  • Key department operating procedures, policies, and safety are followed.

  • Pride in Technician’s own work is evident.

Workspace:

  • The majority of the time (90%) will be spent in a shop environment which can be very loud at times with variable temperature.

  • Depending on the season, other time will be spent outdoors in various conditions.

  • Since the work requires the repairing of boats, and personal watercraft, hands and parts of the body are often wet.

  • The hours may be long at times with deadlines that are outside of the norm.

  • Attendance at scheduled meetings before, during or after normal working hours will be required.

  • Schooling, seminars, or educational programs will be necessary. These classes may occur out of town and require travel in personal or vehicle and overnight stays. Some courses can be taken online during or after work hours.

Job Description: Composite Technician Job Description:

We are seeking creative and responsible technicians to join our growing team, keen to be part of creating technically challenging and innovate vessels. You will be expected to read plans and detailed work instructions, prepare tooling, fabricate composite parts (both prepreg and infused carbon/foam sandwich), oversee the curing at elevated temperature, and complete all necessary recording of relevant QA data. A broad knowledge of composite manufacturing would be ideal, although the processes used at Daedalus are a level above standard boatbuilding. While experience with prepreg and infusion techniques is preferred, we are set up to provide necessary training to the right candidate. The candidate should relocate in North Carolina if outside the state.

Key Attributes and Qualifications:

  • Education should be at least to High School Diploma or General Equivalency Degree (GED).

  • A minimum of one year of experience with composite materials is expected.

  • The role will involve use of hand and power tools. You should be able to demonstrate familiarity with common boatbuilding tools and understand how to operate these safely.

  • This is a physical job, in an industrial environment. The candidate should be capable of working on their feet for the entire shift period and able to lift/carry up to 50lb load.

  • An ability to use appropriate instrumentation to make simple measurements (length, thickness, weight) in both metric and imperial units is essential.

  • The nature of the materials and processes employed at Daedalus Yachts demands attention to detail. This is not a "chop shop"!!

Job Description: Our fiberglass department performs a multitude of activities that sets them apart from other organizations. They typically handle major fabrication of fiberglass panels, repairs to both structural and cosmetic issues as well as minor gel coat problems. Most of our fiberglass staff is knowledgeable about the procedures for painting boats as well as having the ability to prime and repair paint issues.

Job Qualifications: Previous 3 year minimum experience in repairs to marine fiberglass is required as are the following:

  • Knowledge of and adhesion to ABYC guidelines

  • Knowledge of and experience in fiberglass laminate layup and repairs.

  • Knowledge of and experience in Awl grip and other paint products application and repair.

  • Knowledge of and proven ability to repair gelcoat and gelcoat color matching.

  • Knowledge of advanced composites and manufacturing process and their repair process are required

  • Ability to arrive on time from 7:30AM - 4PM Monday through Friday is required

  • Valid driver's license

  • An attitude to get the job done correctly the first time

  • Be willing to be part of a team to ensure customer satisfaction
