Port Townsend Shipwrights Co-Op is full service boat yard, located in the Olympic Peninsula, in the charming city of Port Townsend. We are well-known for our attention to detail and depth of knowledge in commercial and pleasure craft; with expertise in repair and construction of wood, metal and fiberglass vessels. We design and install electrical systems, marine electronics, navigation systems, and mechanical systems (engines, propulsion, fuel and drive). We install and repair the following systems: heating, cooling, plumbing, steering, refrigeration, and hydraulics. We also work on spars and rigging. Almost every type of vessel comes in for restoration and repair, ranging from mega yachts to dinghies. It is a challenging, yet very rewarding work environment.
Port Townsend Shipwrights are seeking to hire a marine systems technician with a strong background in diesel mechanics and ability to service the systems commonly found on modern vessels. We need a motivated person with the ability to self-direct. Familiarity with refrigeration and hydraulics is a plus, as fishing vessels comprise a large part of our business. The ability to design exhaust and fuel systems, help with engine installation, and a working knowledge of pleasure and commercial boats is desired. Must be able to work in a team and have good communication skills. As much of the work is performed in an outdoor setting, he/she must be able to walk to and from the work area, and be exposed to prevailing weather conditions. He/she must be able to lift up to 40 pounds, and climb stairways or ladders, and work in cramped conditions, if necessary.
