Position Title: Production Engineer
Compensation/Rate: $90,000 - $120,000 Commensurate with experience
Location: Charlestown, MA
Position Summary:
Our Production Engineers are the foremost experts on Boston BoatWorks’ upcoming projects and new product development. They provide upstream planning and implementation assistance for our production team including the coordination of Bills of Manufacturing, shop drawings, cost analysis and estimation. The individual will work with our Manufacturing Engineers and functional managers to develop processes and equipment to streamline production while maintaining our standards for quality.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Facilitate collaboration between designers and builders to develop solutions for how products will be manufactured.
• Product Expertise – develop intimate knowledge of the products for which they oversee the manufacturing (prior to shop production beginning) and use this knowledge to support of new products, customizations, or product updates until they are ready to be handed off to the production teams and Manufacturing Engineers.
• Production Support - work with department leaders to evaluate and resolve production issues, support troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
• Process Coordination - collaborate with department leaders and manufacturing engineers to define, develop, and implement processes. Develop any necessary revisions and endure documentation of new and existing processes. This includes the implementation of templates, jigs, and fixtures to improve efficiency and consistency of production.
• Drawing Development – utilize shop drawings and schematics to communicate how the designer’s plans are to be achieved.
• Bills of Manufacturing and Change Management – provide specifications and updates to manufacturing documents including bills of materials and labor budgets through a defined change management process.
• Cost Analysis and Estimating – analyze and/or estimate costs to develop pricing for new products, product changes and customization.
• Quality & Compliance Management – work with department leaders, Manufacturing Engineers, and quality assurance (QA) personnel to develop quality standards and oversee compliance with our certification standards.
• Project Management – serve as a Project Manager and control the flow of information between the Sales, Design and Production teams (excludes management of labor resources).
• Additional responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
Position Requirements:
• Bachelor of Science in an Engineering discipline.
• 5+ years of experience as an Engineer in Manufacturing, marine manufacturing preferred.
• Skilled in various CAD programs, Excel, Word, Outlook and Project Management tools.
• Practical knowledge of manufacturing tools and processes associated with boatbuilding, joinery, carpentry, and FRP Lamination.
• Proven track record of strong communication and project ownership
• Ability to work effectively with minimum supervision and balance multiple tasks.
Preference Given to Applicants with the following qualifications:
• Experience estimating new product or project costs
• Experience Solid Edge, Rhinoceros or similar 3d design software.
• Knowledge of composites and lamination processes.
• Knowledge of marine systems and components
Physical Demands/Conditions:
Onsite work in Boston
General office environment - use of office equipment such as computers, tablets and telephones and the ability to prepare written materials.
Manufacturing environment - periodic exposure to load noises, dust, harsh smells, exposure to indoor/outdoor environment with varying levels of cold, heat, humidity, and precipitation. Work may be performed around electrically and mechanically energized equipment, and working in elevated places such as on lifts, ladders, catwalks and staging inside and outside of the building.
Use of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) due to occupational risks of exposure to non-toxic and toxic chemicals used in construction of boats.

Compensation: Annual Salary between $90,000 and $120,000 commensurate with experience
