Position Title: Marine Mechanic

Compensation/Rate: $22-26/hr.

Location: Southwest Harbor, ME

We are seeking Marine Mechanics to join our team in Southwest Harbor, ME. The Marine Mechanic performs complex mechanical, hydraulic, and plumbing tasks for boat repairs, utilizing various power and hand-tools. The mechanic has the ability to install complete mechanical systems without close supervision, meeting schedule and budget for project.


Responsibilities

Specializes in mechanical repair of boat systems (jets, plumbing, HVAC, hydraulics). Troubleshoots and makes recommendations for corrective action.
Skilled in reading and interpreting blueprints, installation manuals, and schematics.
Places and secures plumbing fixtures (head, sinks) and refrigeration (ice box) and applies sealant. Installs/repairs intake and discharge fittings to provide water for plumbing and engine cooling.
Cuts holes for valves, outlets, and drives. Inserts valve and outlet fittings through hole to provide watertight fit.
Installs other machinery such as motors, pumps, ventilating systems, and auxiliary systems.
Has the ability to troubleshoot system problems and provide creative solutions for difficult system installations and repairs.
Minor woodworking, basic fiberglass and light metal fabrication may be expected.
Understands company charging processes and billing procedures.
Communicates directly and frequently with clients and boat captains to assess and correct problems
Follows prescribed safety rules and regulations and maintain safe, clean work area.
Perform other related duties as necessary and assigned.


Requirements
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 years relevant experience and the ability to install complete mechanical systems, have a drive and desire to meet or beat schedule and budget for project with no rework.
The ability to write condition reports on boats, prepare actual estimates and plan projects through to completion is vital.
This mechanic will work independently to complete projects and may lead a small work team to complete projects
3+ years marine experience preferred
Demonstrates diplomacy and excellent communication/people skills.
Must be comfortable working on all boat systems; Hamilton water jets, engines by Yanmar, CAT, VolvoPenta, Cummins or FPT.
Must be familiar with working on onboard plumbing systems, hydraulics system installations, troubleshooting and repairs.
Some knowledge of HVAC is preferred.
