Position Title: Maintenance Technician
Compensation/Rate: $24.94/hour
Location: Portland, ME
Position Summary:
Casco Bay Lines ferries transport more than one million passengers, 35,000 vehicles and over 500,000 pieces of freight annually and have maintained continuous, uninterrupted service for the past 40 years. While this impressive operation has been the lifeline to the islands for over 150 years and become a cultural mainstay in the greater Portland area, CBL has earned national and global recognition as an innovative leader in the transit industry through cutting edge initiatives.
Working alongside the industry’s best, the Maintenance Technician will assist the Port Engineer in the day-to-day operations, maintenance, and repair of all equipment and systems. This position offers a schedule of Monday – Friday with the ability to be home nights and weekends.
Responsibilities:
Candidates will need to live locally in the Portland ME area and be able to report into the terminal within a reasonable time frame for emergency repairs, including after hours when needed.
Operate systems and equipment in accordance with procedures or as otherwise directed by the Port Engineer.
Be familiar with normal and emergency operating procedures for the steering gear, generators, bilge pump, and fire pump.
Become familiar with system and equipment emergency operating procedures.
Assist with Preventive Maintenance, troubleshooting and repair, approved modifications, and record keeping.
Conduct routine inspections.

Requirements Qualifications:
MMC rating of QMED-Oiler (min) or Assistant Engineer preferred
TWIC card
Capable of prolonged, strenuous work onboard vessels
Effective written and oral communication skills
Ability to operate industrial equipment and their systems safely
Ability to operate a personal computer
Employment is contingent upon:
completion of a successful background check,
pre-hire medical exam and drug screen;
ability to obtain a valid driver’s license and U.S. Passport
Physical Requirements Include, Among Others:
Requires standing, lifting up to 45lbs
Requires the ability to wear the personnel protective equipment prescribed by posted signs and written instruction
Able to work in various temperatures indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions including heat, cold, rain or dry environments
Ability to perform work in various sea conditions, under all environmental conditions, often wet/oily decks
