Job Description: The composite technician contributes to the construction and repair of our high-performing Down East style motor yachts, built to order, using aerospace composite construction processes and highest quality materials and finishes. The composite technician’s objective is to fabricate large composite parts using epoxy impregnated reinforcements and/or small fiber-reinforced parts using vacuum infusion and vacuum-assisted resin transfer molding for our yachts. The team member should be motivated by the opportunity to learn, innovate and advance while building a best-in-class products with like-minded craftspeople. Job Responsibilities:

• Delivers and maintains a maximum level of department service and satisfaction

• Contributes to company-wide communication and best practices. Communicates challenges, innovations, delays, and/or needs that may impact project schedule or project quality to the team leader in a timely fashion

• Keeps informed of new developments within the department

• Balances multiple priorities simultaneously and meets deadlines, often in stressful and high-pressure situations

• Reads blueprints or technical diagrams

• Fabricates large composite parts including hulls, decks, liners using epoxy impregnated reinforcements, and/or fabricates small fiber-reinforced parts including deck hatches, seats, swim platforms, companionways using vacuum infusion and vacuum-assisted resin transfer molding

• Communicates effectively with other team members and team leader

• Prepares written materials (e.g. repair status, activity logs, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities and/or conveying information

• Requests equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of items required to complete the necessary installation and/or repair

• Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies

• Performs any other job-related duties as assigned

Education or Experience: High school or equivalent degree required

• Experienced with basic hand tools and some power tools including hacksaws, circular saws, table saws and bandsaws

• Ability to read blue-prints will be helpful

• Previous boatbuilding/composites experience not required, but a plus

Language Skills:

• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents, such as policy and procedure manuals, maintenance instructions, and other related documents

• Ability to respond to common instruction and inquiries from other employees

• Ability to compute basic mathematical calculations

• Employee will provide required tools attached to this job description; all other necessary tools and equipment will be furnished by the company

The noise level in the work environment is typically loud

• Members must be able to work between the hours of 6:00am-2:30pm with a half an hour break. Occasional overtime required.

• Team members are expected to work in indoor and outdoor environments that are subject to varying levels of cold, heat, humidity, precipitation, wind, noise, dust, and smells

• Work may be performed in and or around electrically or mechanically energized equipment

• Required to work in elevated places on ladders, lifts, catwalks, and staging inside and outside of the building

• Proper precautions and procedures must be taken including the use of appropriate Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) due to occupational risks of exposure to non-toxic and toxic chemicals used in construction of boats

Travel Requirements: • As needed

Relationships/Decision Making Authority: The composite technician reports to the laminating/small parts team leader. The composite technician works closely with other laminating team members as well as other production team members to ensure quality work and on-time production. The composite technician should also communicate as appropriate with Safety Compliance Officer and HR Coordinator to ensure personal safety training/documentation and employment documentation and is current and complete.
