Position Title: Designer I
Compensation/Rate: $20-$25
Job Description: BMT is seeking a Designer/Drafter with structural and / or systems design experience. Designer will be responsible for working with naval architects and marine engineers to develop preliminary design drawings, arrangements and assemblies in support of several passenger vessels, patrol boats and government small boat design projects. Ideal candidate will have ‘can do’ attitude and commitment to learning and comfortable working in a fast pace environment with team engineer and design team.
Qualified candidates must be US citizen with the ability to obtain DOD security clearance. Company will not sponsor a work visa for this position.
Work Location: Alexandria, VA
Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent required. Technical school preferred.
• Minimum 1-3 years’ experience creating or modifying drawings to support the marine design and modification projects using 2D and 3D AutoCAD is required
• Experience creating production level detailed drawings in AutoCAD as well as 3D modeling in ShipConstructor and creating associated assembly drawings preferred
• Experience developing detailed Bill of Materials and calculating weights is highly desirable
• Knowledge of shipboard arrangements, weldments and mechanical systems is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of ShipConstructor Piping and Hull modules a plus
• Familiarity with USN, USCG, ABS, SOLAS and CFR a plus.
• Displayed proficiency in MS Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel a plus
• Experience modeling surfaces in Rhino 3D a plus
• Experience working within multidisciplinary design teams a plus
• Shipyard experience preferred
• Demonstrate strong commitment to proactively investigate and resolve detail technical design problems independently and with support from engineering design team
• Strong listening, verbal and written communication skills that facilitate ability to reach out, ask questions and complete tasks on schedule is required
• Physically able to conduct ship checks including working in confined spaces, climbing ladders and lifting up to 25 pounds is required
• Confident action oriented, self-starter with a sense of integrity and actively contributes to providing high caliber service and meeting client needs on time
