Position Title: Wood Finishing Department Head
Compensation/Rate: $25-$35 / Hour
Job description: ME Yacht Restoration is West Michigan's premier marine service and storage company and we are searching for a skilled, Wood Finishing Department Head to add to our ranks. This is a full-time, year-round position with a leader in the marine industry.

As the lead Wood Finishing Technician at ME Yacht Restoration, you will play a crucial role in maintaining, repairing, and enhancing various types of watercraft. You will work in a dynamic environment, collaborating with a team of skilled professionals dedicated to delivering exceptional service to our clients.
The ideal candidate will be a natural leader, have a strong background in woodworking and finishing techniques, with the ability to restore and fabricate wood products to meet high quality standards. This role requires attention to detail, a commitment to craftsmanship, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Key Objectives
- Perform all steps necessary to repair and refinish exterior and interior wood pieces and finishes
- Prep woodwork for finishing including stripping, repairing, sanding, color matching etc.
- Repair and matching of existing finishes (matte, satin, high gloss, etc)
- Complete basic carpentry as needed
- Ability to identify wood species and match wood grain and tone
- Knowledge of wood joinery and gluing/ lamination processes
- Communicate effectively with customers, team members, and management on updates, call-outs, recommendations and estimates
- Track and keep accurate time records for work performed
- Conduct quality checks on finished products to ensure they meet specifications
- Compose and submit notes with each work order
- Track and report any parts, supplies or outside services used to complete jobs, submit any invoices/ receipts
- Mange projects to ensure quality and time expectations are met
- Provide guidance, training and support to team members
- Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, promoting teamwork and open communication
- Work with parts department to order necessary parts/ supplies and maintain an appropriate amount of inventory for anticipated workload
- Adhere to safety protocols and regulations while performing all tasks
- Keep work areas and surroundings protected, clean and organized
- Ensure tools and equipment are properly maintained and stored
- Stay informed about advancements in boating technology, products and industry trends to continuously improve service quality and efficiency
