Position Title: Marine Systems Instructor
Compensation/Rate: Commensurate with Experience
Job Description:
Position: This position is an Instructor in the Marine Systems Program at the Landing School. It is a full-time, permanent position functioning within the direct supervision of the Dean of Education, hired by the President of the School.
Objective: The Marine Systems program teaches the skills and knowledge necessary to install, maintain and repair today’s increasingly complex boat systems using established industry standards. The curriculum also serves as an effective preparation for those students seeking American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC) marine systems certification.
Duties and Responsibilities: In fulfillment of the objectives, the Marine Systems Instructor will:
Continue to develop and improve of the curriculum through syllabus, lesson plans, teaching equipment/materials, and scheduling of student work
Work directly with students, with primary responsibility for lectures, demonstrations, bench work, practice applications, and yacht quality installations and repairs of marine systems in customer boats
Assist students in learning individually, in small groups and as a class through clear communication; patient, understanding, approach; thorough and professional knowledge; mature leadership; and positive, honest academic advice
Evaluate student learning through questioning, homework, practical and theoretical testing, and certifying exams
Share in the administrative tasks of the development and successful operation of the program, as assigned by the Dean of Education
Share responsibility for the management of program facilities and equipment, as assigned by the Dean of Education and Dean of Administration
Demonstrate, teach, and enforce shop safety requirements and procedures
Uphold all school policies set forth in the Student Handbook and the School Policy Manual
Participate in school functions, staff meetings and professional development activities
Continue to develop skills and knowledge pertinent to teaching and current marine industry practices
Oversee and manage the activities of the Marine Systems Program Assistant
Work cooperatively and professionally with the Dean of Education, staff, and students of the School at all times
Qualifications:
Associates degree or better
Minimum of four years working in industry, in a boatyard setting, preferably as a manager, involved in all aspects of yacht service and repair
Practical experience in the installation and maintenance of complex marine systems including: engines and propulsion, AC and DC marine electrical systems, marine plumbing systems, fiberglass and metal yacht structural repair
Previous teaching experience a plus
ABYC Certified Technician a strong plus
